Easy and Fun Ways to Decorate a Cake

Cakes are so expensive in the stores now that it's actually much cheaper to make your own cake and decorate it. Decorating it can be difficult but there are many ways that you can decorate a cake and have it look good with very little effort. You don't have to purchase expensive cake decorating equipment or be an artist to make a cake look appealing and yummy.

There are many quick ways that you can decorate a cake. First thing that you will want to do is to ice the cake. Usually this is white icing, but you can add food coloring and make it what ever color you wish to be the base icing. Once you get the icing on the whole cake, you can start making your masterpiece. You can do any of things to your cake to have it looking great.

Sprinkles are a great way to make an ordinary cake look great. You can make different shapes of sprinkles that have the sprinkles in that pattern, you can also use the sprinkles to write a name. Sprinkles are one way that you can dress up the cake.

Decorating Icing: You can make decorations on the cake in a different colored icing. Most of the time you will need the tips and the icing bag, but if you don't have either of these items you can improvise, by using a plastic baggie and cutting a hole in the one corner of it. Then all you have to do is fill the baggie with the icing then squeeze it out of the opening. You won't be able to get all the fancy designs that you would if you have the cake decorating tips but you will be able to cut different shaped holes to get different effects. You can quickly decorate cupcakes using your own homemade pastry bag. This is a fast way to decorate many cupcakes and have them look like they were store bought.

Candies: You can use candy to decorate the top of the cake. Small pieces work great. Kisses, M&M's also work great and are easy to use. You can break up other candy to place on top of the icing to decorate.
