Easy Halloween Recipes for Kids

Treats for Classrooms or Parties

Tricia Goss
Even though you work - whether outside the home or at home - you still want to be involved in your children's school activities at Halloween or anytime. When my daughter was little, I was always in search of treats I could send to school for special occasions. My top two criteria for recipes were they had to be something the kids would love and they had to be easy. The following recipes are my favorite Halloween recipes for kids and their busy moms. These treats are great to take to school or for a Halloween party at home.

I might have seen this Halloween recipe in a magazine or on a cookie package. It has been a long time, so I am not certain. If you are super short on time, pick up brownies already made from your grocery store's bakery.

Graveyard Brownies

Ingredients

1 box of your favorite brownie mix
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs
Chocolate frosting
Chocolate cookies such as Oreos ™
Pepperidge Farms Milano ™ cookies, or similar
Candy pumpkins
Small tube of black icing

Directions

Prepare brownie mix as directed using the water, oil and eggs. Bake as instructed and allow to cool completely. Frost with chocolate frosting. Crush chocolate cookies and sprinkle all over the frosting to resemble dirt. Stick several Milano cookies into the "dirt" and write tombstone epitaphs such as RIP on them with the black icing. Place a few candy pumpkins in the graveyard.

Again, my daughter is in her twenties now so I do not recall where I originally got my hands (no pun intended) on this Halloween recipe. However, I do know it was always a big hit, and so easy to make!

Witch Hands

Ingredients

Food grade plastic gloves
Popped popcorn
Candy corn
Plastic Halloween rings

Directions

Place one piece of candy corn, pointy side in, inside of each fingertip of a glove. Stuff the glove with popcorn. Tie the open end of the glove in a knot. Slip a plastic ring over one finger. Repeat, making a hand for each Halloween partier.

This Halloween punch recipe takes just a little bit of prep time. You can use one of the gloves leftover from the Witch Hands!

Zombie Punch

Ingredients

Food grade plastic glove
3 packages of red (any flavor) drink mix
3 cups sugar
12 oz. pineapple juice
2 cups water
3 bottles lemon-lime soda
About 3 cups orange juice or orange drink

Directions

The night or so before you need the punch, pour orange juice or drink into a plastic glove. Close it by tying it or using a rubber band. Set it upright in the freezer, so that it does not spill.

To make the punch:
Combine red drink mix, sugar, soda, pineapple juice and water in punch bowl. Just prior to serving, add lemon-lime soda. Remove glove from frozen juice and float the "zombie hand" in the punch.

Thanks for the great recipes! I am my younger daughter's classroom Mom and since only one other mother volunteered to help with parties, they are all on me this year. Halloween is only a few weeks away now, so I appreciate the treat ideas!
