You Need: scissors, sticky back craft felt in white and black, small pieces of ribbon of your color choice, waterproof colored thin markers or paint markers, glue gun
or no sew glue-several pockets from the backs on any used jeans-cardboard for pattern, acrylic paint in white. stiff paint brush
(1) cut out the pockets from the backs of used jeans or denim jean shorts ( the pocket as well as the backing)
(2) cut out the hemming from the bottom of the legs( clip to make 1 length instead of a circle)
(3) hot glue a length of the hemming ( your choice of the length for a hanger) to each side of the inside of the denim pocket
(4) Draw a small snowman head on the cardboard and cut out
(5) place the cardboard pattern on the back part of the sticky back white felt draw around the snowman pattern-cut the snowman out from the white sticky back felt
(6) Peel off the backing and place the felt snowman on the front of the denim pocket ( you choose the placement)
(7) Draw a top hat to fit the head of the snowman onto the cardboard-cut out the cardboard pattern and trace the hat onto the back of the black sticky felt
cut out the hat, peel the backing off and place the hat on the snowman's head-you can tip it sideways to give him a jaunty look
(8) Using the paint markers -(black) dot 2 eyes on the snowman and his mouth-I like a smirky smile
(9) Using the orange paint marker, draw a carrot nose
(10) Using a length of ribbon of your color choice-make a scarf for around his neck and hot glue this or use no sew glue to put in place-or you can crochet a scarf in single crochet and tie and hot glue it to the snowman
(11) Squeeze out a small amount of the white acrylic paint onto a paper plate or piece of tin foil-add equal amount of water to dilute it to ink consistency
(12) using the stiff paint brush, dip the brush into the thinned mixture-using your finger, fleck the entire pocket front with flecks of paint which will look like snow
Let the entire piece dry-when finished drying, you can place pieces of candy or candy canes, small items like pencil shrpeners, key chains of your favorite team or even gift cards and/or money into the pocket and give as a gift or hang on your own tree
I made these snowman pocket ornaments in less than an hour , also you can vary your designs for the holidays with santas, candy canes, snow scenes, christmas trees with presents ( use your imagination) or personalize them for the kids/grandchildren with their names.
The kids can get involved with this easy ornament with adult supervision-it is fun for the whole family.
I have created and made these for other holidays as well, such as Halloween with bats, pumpkins, ghosts, witches, etc. on the front and have placed wrapped Halloween candy in them for Halloween night ghosts and goblins. They also make great Easter candy holders for and you can make a bunny holding a carrot or easter basket.
Have fun with it -make your own designs and themes.
