Easy Holiday Crafts: Snow Covered Christmas Ornaments and Candle Holders

Jenny Blake
Handmade decorations and Christmas ornaments are fun to make and add a festive feel to the holidays. However, these days, who has the time to gather the supplies and work on the project? These beautiful snow covered ornaments and candle holders are easy to make, take very little time and are inexpensive as well. The finished ornaments and candle holders make excellent gifts for anyone and will add sparkle to your own tree!

You will need to purchase a few inexpensive, easy to find items. Clear glass ornaments and plain glass candle holders can be bought at most craft stores. The ornaments should come in a box of six or twelve. You will also need a light sealant spray that works on glass; they can help you find it at the craft store. Grab some Epsom salt and a small amount of white wine, (for the mix, not necessarily for you!). You'll also need a bowl, a pie tin or foil, and a small sized craft paintbrush. Use an egg carton or the ornament box to hold the ornaments when they dry.

Begin by mixing ½ cup of Epsom salt with a small amount of whit wine in the bowl. Add just enough wine to create a slushy like texture. Do not make the mixture too watery or the mixture will not adhere to the glass. While holding the item over the pie tin or foil, apply the mixture lightly, in dabs, to the ornament or candle holder. It's best to apply the mixture to one side of the ornament and let that dry before doing the whole ornament, as this may cause some of the slush to slide off. For a candle holder, apply mixture wherever you want the snow to show. Place the ornaments in the egg carton or ornament box to dry. Let the candle holder or ornament dry over night. If you want to touch up or fill in any holes you missed, just add more mixture and let dry again.

After the candle holder or ornament dries, apply a light coat of sealer. To add some finishing touches, you can also add a pretty bow or a bit of greenery to the top of the Christmas ornament. The candle holders will look great with some greenery and holly berries surrounding the base. Your handmade Christmas ornaments and candle holders are ready to make a great gift or pretty decoration for your home.
