Easy Home Remedies for a Headache

Before all the pharmaceutical companies came along, people had to rely on the disposable items around the house to cure any aliment. Many people find humor in what grandparents and parents advise to do simply because they do not understand its purpose. Since they have been doing these things for years, it does make sense. Although, people may not agree with the old remedies, there are still things that can be done at home. Our culture has become dependent on medicines that we no longer consider what can be done for ourselves. A common pain many people experience is headaches. Here are a few things people can do to relieve the pain and things that can be implemented into an everyday lifestyle to lessen the amount of times people experience them.

Increase sodium. Headaches can sometimes be caused by the lack of sodium in the body. A simple way to increase it is to add salt. To do this take a 1/4 cup of warm water mixed with a half teaspoon of salt and begin to drink. The taste will not be appetizing but relief should come. For more severe headaches add a little more salt. People with high blood pressure or high cholesterol should avoid this remedy or consult their doctor first.

Increase blood flow. Blood needs to keep moving throughout the body to function properly. If it is not moving the way it needs to it could cause the body distress such as a headache. A simple way to increase the blood flow is by moving around. Exercising or walking around will stimulate the blood to distribute itself to where it needs to go. Exercise does not have to be rigorous and can be done as much as tolerated.

Decrease Caffeine. Caffeine can cause headaches in those who consume too much for their body. Drinking water is a way to cut down on the caffeine. The body needs water so doing this is providing a double benefit. This could alleviate consistent headaches in those who drink caffeine regularly and prevent the headaches from ever occurring.

Increase Oxygen Intake. When people are in a small, confined space that does not allow for much air flow, they become susceptible to headaches. Windows should be opened to let air in. If there are not any windows, increasing the amount of plants in the area would be highly beneficial.

Decrease Stress. People who have headaches related to stress can simply rid themselves of the pain by breathing. Taking deep breaths allows air to circulate throughout the body which in turn increases the oxygen along with increasing the rate of blood flow. Practicing different breathing techniques would lessen the chances of a headache occurring.

Headaches should not be mistaken for migraines. Any severe pain should be consulted by a medical expertise if symptoms worsen or do not get better over time.
