Easy Homemade Christmas Flower Arrangements

Christmas flower arrangements make beautiful decorations for the home during the holiday season. Ordering fresh flower arrangements for Christmas can be very expensive, so you can save a lot of money by making your own homemade flower arrangements. Winter flower arrangements also make lovely centerpieces for the Christmas table. Here are some easy ideas for making both fresh and artificial Christmas flower arrangements.

Fresh Flower Arrangements

Get a large Christmas-themed ceramic vase and a block of floral foam big enough to fit inside. Soak the floral foam in water for about 30 minutes, then soak the floral foam in water and floral preservative for about half an hour. For an inexpensive Christmas flower arrangement, get some winter flowers such as carnations, chrysanthemums, amaryllis and pansies and arrange them in the foam with some greenery such as pine or balsam sprigs. For a more elegant Christmas flower arrangement, select roses, orchids, gladiolus, hydrangeas, lilies or tulips. For best results, choose flowers in Christmas colors such as red, blue, gold and white. Both of these fresh winter flower arrangements would benefit from a large quantity of baby's breath or Queen Anne's lace, which are both reminiscent of snowflakes. Insert the greenery in the floral foam first, then arrange the flowers and the baby's breath or Queen Anne's lace around it.

Artificial Flower Arrangements

If you'd like an artificial Christmas floral arrangement, skip the floral foam and the fresh flowers and get a Styrofoam block and some artificial silk flowers instead. Choose flowers such as silk roses, lilies, orchids and tulips. As with the fresh Christmas flower arrangement, choose flowers in colors that evoke Christmas spirit. Push the stems of the flowers in the Styrofoam to hold the artificial flowers in place. Inslude some dried or artificial greenery such as eucalyptus, fern leaves and cedar sprigs. You can also find some pine cones to enhance your artificial floral arrangement. Wash the pine cones and allow them to dry. Spray paint them a brilliant color such as red or metallic gold. Then attach a piece of floral wire to the large end of the pine cone with hot glue. Insert the floral wire into the Styrofoam to add the pine cones to your Christmas flower arrangement.
