Easy Homemade Halloween Vampire Costumes

One way to make a vampire costume for Halloween at home may require the purchase of a few things not found in your child's closet. He will need black pants, a white long-sleeve shirt, a long piece of black fabric, white and red makeup and plastic vampire fangs. Simply have him dress in the pants and shirt and secure the black material around his shoulders. For an added touch you can sew a piece of shiny red material to the inside of the cape. Sponge paint his face white and possibly even add some dark makeup to make circles under his eyes. Use an eyebrow pencil to even make bigger, pointier eyebrows. Use the red makeup around his mouth and make a drip of "blood" from one corner. You can even use lots of hair gel to slick his hair back and make it look really shiny.

Another twist to the vampire costume is to go glamorous. You can exaggerate curly hair or pin it up nice for a girl, or slick it back for a boy. Button up a long-sleeve white shirt all the way up to the neck and find a black tuxedo vest if possible. Girls can wear black lace, satin or velvet and boys can wear nice black slacks. Find some long black material to wear as a cape and fasten it with an old brooch. Paint the face white with bushy eyebrows and don't forget the vampire fangs!

It's understandable that many kids may not have black slacks or maybe parents can't find a long black coat. You can improvise with any kind of black pants and use a large black trash bag for a cape. He can wear a white t-shirt and add a little color by safety pinning some ribbon to the shirt to look like suspenders. As long as you can create the basic look, use household items and let your imagine run wild!

Extra touches to a plain vampire costume could include black nail polish and red or black lipstick for both girls and boys. You can also carry around a rubber or plastic bat! To make fake blood to drip from the lips, all you need corn syrup, red and blue food coloring and a little bit of milk. Add a tiny amount of the food coloring to the syrup to give it a realistic color and the little bit of milk to give it a more realistic appearance. Be aware that food coloring can stain clothes.
