Ingredients:
strong coffee (3/4 cup)
chocolate drink mix or chocolate syrup (2-3 tablespoons)
sugar (1-2 tablespoons)
ice cubes (6-7)
half & half or milk (4 tablespoons)
Steps:
1. Pour about 3/4 cup strong coffee into a large glass. If you have time, place the glass in the refrigerator to cool for a while. If you want your iced mocha right away, you can proceed directly to step 2.
2. Mix about 2-3 tablespoons chocolate powdered drink mix (I use Nesquik) into the coffee. You can also use chocolate syrup.
3. Add 1-2 tablespoons granulated sugar and stir well.
4. If your coffee is already cool, just add a few ice cubes. If it's still hot, add about 6-7 ice cubes. Be sure to add them rapidly, or the first few will melt quickly.
5. Pour about 4 tablespoons half & half into the glass and stir. If you prefer, milk can also be used, though the results might not be as creamy. Coffee creamer works as well.
6. Enjoy your delicious homemade iced mocha!
Tips:
- If you frequently make homemade iced mochas, try preparing a whole pitcher of cold coffee to keep in the fridge. Put some coffee grounds in the bottom of the pitcher, fill with water, and leave the pitcher in the refrigerator overnight. In the morning, strain the grounds out, and you will have a full pitcher of fresh, cold coffee that will keep longer than hot brewed coffee.
- To keep your beverage from becoming watered down as the ice melts, try using ice cubes made from fresh coffee.
- This iced mocha recipe is highly adjustable. If you'd like more chocolate flavor, add more chocolate. If you'd like a sweeter drink, add more sugar. If you'd like it creamier, add more half & half. For a healthier variation, leave out the sugar and use low-fat milk.
