Easy Infant Halloween Costumes that Double as Pajamas

Two Uses for the Price of One

Carly Hart
Four years ago when my son was an infant, I sought to find him an easy infant Halloween costume. Since our trick-or-treat hours corresponded with his bed time, I decided to combine bed time with Halloween and find him some pajamas that could easily double as a Halloween costume. Below are some links to some clever infant pajamas that can be used as a Halloween costume for an infant. Best of all, they can wear them again later so there's more wear for your buck!

Superhero pajamas - take your infant trick-or-treating as the Man of Steel or Batman

If your infant is a boy, you are in luck. Funkidspajamas.com has an awesome Superman footed pajamas set that comes with a detachable cape. Your little one will be kept snug and warm in these, plus the detachable cape is a nice touch. The Superman pajamas cost $13.99, plus shipping. For under $20, your little man can be the Man of Steel for Halloween. Sizes range from infant to 4T.

Also available is a Batman 3 piece suit, which includes a top and bottom, as well as a cape. For colder climates, consider Batman in footed pajamas. These adorable Superhero pajamas will easily double as an infant Halloween costume.

Sesame Street - Dress your infant as Big Bird or Cookie Monster

Another easy infant Halloween costume is to dress them as a Sesame Street character. To dress your infant as Big Bird, obtain yellow footed pajamas, which can usually be found in early fall in department stores such as Sears or JC Penney. Next, acquire a yellow boa, which you can use as Big Bird's feathers. Using an infant hat that you already have, use a hot glue gun to wind the yellow feather boa onto the hat.

As for your Cookie Monster, check out Carol Bengle Gilbert's article, DIY Cookie Monster Halloween Costume for Toddler Sesame Street Fans. Her article explains how to make your child a Cookie Monster costume on the cheap using footed pajamas as a starting point. Best of all, her costume idea can be modified to create an easy infant Halloween costume of your own. If a pullover hat is not possible, search out some matching blue fleece and make your own infant hat to complete the costume. If you aren't all that crafty, you just need to measure your child's head, sew the fabric as you would a shirt sleeve, tie off the top and roll up the bottom edges.

Clifford the Big Red Dog

Does your infant have the cutest puppy dog eyes? If they do, think about getting them a Clifford the Big Red Dog pajama set. Funkidspajamas.com has a cute two piece Clifford the Big Red Dog pajama suit, with a red hood with ears included. Dress yourself up as Emily Elizabeth and take your little one trick-or-treating as one of America's most beloved pups.

Pajama costumes are economical

The best part of all of these easy infant Halloween costume ideas is that they are based on pajamas so parents are able to use their child's "costume" for longer than just Halloween night. For my son's first Halloween when he was 10 months old, we dressed him Superman pajamas that included the cape. He went from trick-or-treat to sweet dreams in less than 1 minute when we came back home. Another plus was that he was able to wear those pajamas all through the winter.
