Easy to Mail Father's Day Gifts

Lynn Malone
Father's Day falls on Sunday, June 21 this year and unfortunately, many live apart from their Dads and are forced to partake in a long distance celebration. If you are living miles away from Dad this year - don't fret! You do not have to send your Dad another boring necktie. Here are some great suggestions for unique gifts, which are easy to send my mail.

1. Magazine Subscriptions

Magazines are inexpensive to mail and you can find something for everyone in this category; whether your father is a sports fanatic or a business executive, you can easily find a magazine to fit his tastes. The following magazines have been big hits with the men in my life:

• National Geographic
• Rolling Stone
• Sports Illustrated
• Time
• Hot Rod

Once you purchase a subscription, it can often take the company two weeks to mail out the first magazine. For this reason, when sending a magazine subscription as a gift, you may want to buy one copy of the magazine in advance.

You can package the copy of the magazine along with a card in which tell your father you have purchased a year's subscription to the magazine as a Father's Day gift. For a thoughtful touch, include some of your father's favorite candy.

2. Books, Movies, or Music

Books, movies, and music are great to send by post because they qualify for the U.S. Postal Service's media mail discount; however, you should note, media mail does require a few extra days for shipping. My Father's Day media suggestions this year are as follows:

Books:

"Sports Illustrated 50: The Anniversary Book," "Strength Finder 2.0" by Tom Rath;
and "Man in the Dark" by Paul Auster.

Movies:

"Valkyrie," "Paul Blart: Mall Cop," and Chevy Chase classics, "Fletch," along with "Fletch Lives."

• Music:

New albums by classic rockers - Bruce Springsteen's "Working on a Dream;" U2's, "No Line On The Horizen;"
and AC/DC's "Black Ice."

3. Photo Gifts

Photo gifts are wonderful - they are personal and easy to mail as they are lightweight. My husband is a professional photographer and when it comes to printing gifts for our very large family, we often use Walgreens or Mac.com. If you create the gifts online, you can ship them directly to your father's house. My favorite photo gifts for Dads this year are as follows:

• Digital Photo Key Chains
• Photo Playing Cards
• Mouse Pads
• Photo Books

I highly recommend making your father a photo book. A 5x7 paperback retails for only $9.99 at Walgreens. They are easy to make and you can create them using creative themes.

For instance, I like to create books using old photos. Last year, I scanned photos of cars my grandfather owned from the 1950's through the present. I then placed them into a book with a black dust cover. The template at Walgreens allowed me to blow the pictures up to 5X7's on every page - The result was a beautiful photo book of cars my grandfather absolutely adored.
