Easy Meals for Dinners While Babysitting

Ash S
I've babysat many times for different intervals throughout my years; from friends to family to just random people needing someone to watch their kids for the night. However, there is one common theme that I've ran into no matter where I go (except if I'm watching the kids at home)- what to make for dinner. Now needless to say, I am 22 years old now and not the best cook out there (my mom and sister can vouch for that), but nonetheless dinner-or lunch depending on the time- still needs to be made. So I've come up with a list of some potential dinner ideas for those of you who have come to find themselves in the same or similar situations as I.

Now one of the hardest things that I find with making meals at other people's houses is not knowing where anything is and having to dig through the cupboards to find the things you need. Some of these dinners you will need to dig through cupboards to find stuff, but others are designed to minimize this.

1.) Hot dog
This is one of the easiest meals that can be made. Throwing the hot dogs in the microwave for, at most, one minute; cut up some bread with butter and throw some frozen vegetables in a microwave safe container with water and putting them in depending on the time instructed on the package. The only things you'll need for this are plates, utensils, and a microwave safe bowl.

2.) Frozen Pizza
Again a very simple and easy dinner for those looking to just throw something in the oven and go back to watching the kids. All you'll need for this, depending on what, if anything, you want to make with it are plates.

3.) Macaroni and Cheese
This is normally eaten with someone as a combination meal, however, it is possible to make it a meal in itself. For example, by adding hotdogs or larger frozen veggies makes mac n' cheese a bit more of a meal. Bread can also be added to this meal as well. The only cooking supplies you'll need for this are a strainer and a pot at the minimum.

4.) Spaghetti
Spaghetti is a great meal for those days when nothing really sounds right to make. It's a simple meal, especially when you get have the pre-made sauces It requires a pot, pan, strainer, utensils, and a cookie sheet if cheese bread is made. Usually with a meal like this some form of vegetable is made as well and even bread.

5.) Grilled Cheese
Out of all the meals I listed thus far, I consider this one of the "more difficult." Not difficult as in, hard, but when you're trying to watch young kids and make dinner it can be complicated and Requires a pan and spatula again depending on the extras made with it.

These are just a few of the meals I have found to be the easiest and most beneficial meals. Plus there are a few extra meals here, so you're not feeding the kids the same meal every time they're watched by you. Good luck and happy sitting!
