Easy Money Saving Tips

Great Ways to Save Money During Our Economic Recession

Alexander Mccarthey
In today's economy many households are beginning to look at new ways to save money. Today these great tips and tricks can mean the difference between a new car, and making your house payment.

One of the best ways to save money is by setting up a savings account, separate from your checking. Every time you get some change place it in a jar, and stow it away. At the end of the month take your change jar to the bank and deposit it into your savings. You'd be surprised how much your change can add up.

All too often people overdraw their checking accounts by not tallying up the transactions that they make. By keeping cash with you and minimizing your use of your debit card you will find that it's easier to keep from overdrawing your account. This will save you from costly overdraft fees.

You can really reduce your grocery bill by saving up old coupons that come in the mail. Some stores price-match other stores coupons if they have a lower price. Try asking your local grocer about this fantastic tip. Also, instead of buying costly pre-made food items that you can simply heat and serve try buying generic brand products that you can cook. You'll find that through savvy shopping at your local grocer you can really reduce the amount of cash you spend on food.

While making my monthly trip to the bank to deposit my change jar, I spoke with a young teller who told me that she kept overdrawing her account because of her bills, which were automatically withdrawn. One of the bankers told her that she could set up a separate savings account and deposit in it just enough money for her bills. That way she didn't have to keep track of the balance constantly. She found that this has given her great success.

Some states have depots where you can bring your old soda cans and trade them in for cash. Instead of throwing away your old soda cans, try exchanging them. You can then deposit the money in your savings account and keep the money for a rainy day.

Some people have problems keeping money in their savings account. They may need it for specific bills or items that they need. Others say that once they opened their savings account it turned into just another checking account. One of the best ways to keep you from spending that extra savings is by exchanging it for roles of dimes. People are less likely to spend the dimes because the rolls aren't commonly accepted at many retailers.

I hope you enjoy these tips, and happy saving!
