Glass pieces can be sharp, so this is an adult mosaic craft project you can use to transform plain and outdated glass light covers into updated light fixtures with an artistic flare.
Be sure to wear a pair of gloves.
To Update Your Outdated Light Fixtures you will need:
Glass bottles or any kind of glass objects
Hammer
Pillowcase
Clear epoxy glue
Old glass light fixtures
This simple light fixture update is going to work best on a glass light fixture. You know, the square kind that sort of look like platter. You could also turn a fluorescent light fixture with this simple mosaic update.
Now, you can use almost any kind of glass to transform a light fixture and make mosaic art. Colored glass bottles are fun, but if you cannot find cooled glass, try pouring paint inside the glass bottle.
Swirl the paint around to coat the inside of the glass bottle and pour the excess out. Now, let it dry.
Use a hammer to break your glass bottle inside of a pillowcase. Do not pound the glass into powder, but merely create small glass pieces.
So, go ahead and take down your glass or plastic light fixture glove or cover.
Now, use some clear adhesive, like a strong epoxy glue to start gluing on your mosaic glass pieces. You will want to wear some gloves while you are doing this.
Once your updated light faster eyes rehang you wont have to worry about the edges of the glass, but while you are handling it you will.
Place around with your pattern and have a little fun updating the light fixture.
It is fun to use one color of glass to create mosaic polka dots. When they dry, fill in the background with another color! This is supering cute and easy.
You can use this same idea to create hearts, footballs, or even lines to update you outdated light futures!
Let your strong epoxy glue dry for at least 24 hours before you rehang the updated light fixture.
If you want you can fill in the space between your mosaic glass pieces with grout if you want. This will add weight to your updated light fixture, so make sure that your light fixture cover can be attached securely in place.
The grout is just not a good idea if your screw is stripped or loose. For a more lightweight option other than grout try using an epoxy caulking to fill in the spaces.
