Make a Mother's Day Card with Poem

Marie M. Daniels
Mother's Day will be here soon and you can quickly and easily make something for your mom. If you are a Dad, preschool teacher, or a Sunday School teacher looking for a simple craft that mom will love, try this out.

Mom is special, that is why she gets her own day on Mother's Day. Moms around the world are wonderful and have done so much for their children. Many mothers will go without so that their children will not have to.

You can make a Mother's Day card by using the Mother's Day poem below. The poem is often called the handprint poem but is actually called Handprints poem. Copy the poem into one side of the card and then put the child's hand print on the other side of the card. Cardstock works well for this Mother's Day Card Craft. You can use ink or paint for the kids' hand print. Make sure that you put the date on the card and possibly the childs age at the time. That way when mom looks back through her cards she will know how long ago it was given to her and just how little that handprint was.

Handprints

Sometimes you get discouraged
Because I am so small
And always leave my handprint
On furniture and wall

But everyday I'm growing
(I'll be all grown someday)
And all those tiny hand prints
Will surely fade away.

So here's a final handprint
Just so you can recall
Exactly how my fingers looked
When they were very small.

written by T. Lambert, Jr.

You can have the child write Happy Mothers Day on the front of the card and decorate it with pictures or colorings that they create. Once mom reads the poem and sees the handprint she might just shed a few tears, the poem is quite touching and it is true how quickly children grow up.

Mother's Day Handprint Variation:

You can trace the child's handprint onto construction paper using a few different colors. Then you can use 5 or 6 handprint cutouts and make a paper flower. You can type out the Handprint poem in a smaller font or size and paste onto the back of the flower. That is another quick and easy Mother's Day Craft for kids.
