One treat she may enjoy is a special Mother's Day cupcake. If you're like me and don't have a lot of spare time to bake but wish to add a personal touch, you may want to start by purchasing a good cake mix in her favorite flavor, a simple but tasty frosting, sprinkles, and an icing product that you can create handmade Mother's Day notes with. I usually make chocolate fudge cupcakes, my mom's favorite, and top them off with a white frosting. Then I put a few sprinkles or rainbow jimmies around the edges. The final step for me involves writing notes with red icing in the middle of each cupcake and says such things as "Best Mom" or "Happy Mother's Day", or "You're the greatest".
Another option, which I did one year when I had to bake different varieties of cupcakes for my son's school play, was to put aside a dozen to decorate and give to my mother on Mother's Day that same week. I included some golden, cherry vanilla, marble, and, of course, her favorite chocolate fudge cupcakes. Additionally, I used food coloring to create different colors of frosting, and I put a cherry or gumdrop on top of each of the treats to complete the look. They were a big hit that Mother's Day, not only with my mom but also the rest of the family and two relatives who came to visit.
Another Mother's Day treat I created last year was a special trail mix that included a combination of three of my mom's favorite cereals, some of the nuts and seeds she enjoys, and a little of the dried fruit and dark chocolate she also likes. Since she continues to lead an active lifestyle and values convenience, she especially appreciated my wrapping the tasty mixture in small, individual plastic bags so that she could easily pack them in her purse and take them anywhere with her for a quick and healthier snack. I also put the packets into a special wooden container that I had hand painted in her favorite colors and placed a picture on the front of the box that showed mother and me smiling at an especially happy event that we had attended together. Mom really appreciated the trail mixes and after they were gone, she proudly displayed the gift box in her living room, where it remains to this day for everyone to see.
Hopefully, you can use one or more of the Mother's Day ideas mentioned above. You might even want to modify them somewhat to personalize them even more. Either way you use them, you'll be sure to put a smile on your mother's face and give her something to remember for many years to come.
