Easy and Natural Lip Gloss Recipes
Fun and Simple Lip Gloss Ideas Using Natural Products and Basic Items
The following items are needed for making natural lip gloss:
-Homemade non-petroleum jelly made with 1part vegetable oil to ¼ part beeswax (you do not need a lot to make lip gloss-only about ¼ cup vegetable oil and 1 tablespoon beeswax)
-Petroleum jelly can be used in place of the non-petroleum jelly, though it is not as "green." It is however, more convenient and inexpensive. Plus, it is not horrible for the environment-it is even good for the skin.
-powdered fruit drink mix packet, in any color, with or without sugar
-cherries
To begin, simply heat the vegetable oil and beeswax in a small pot over a stove top until melted. Stir vigorously to ensure proper stiffness. The mixture can also be put in the microwave with a microwavable dish for a minute or so. Be sure to take the mixture out occasionally to monitor the melting. Put the mixture in for a longer or lesser amount of time as needed. Once the un-petroleum jelly has cooled into a stiff gel, simply sprinkle a little drink mix, of any color or flavor, onto a portion of the jelly. Stir the powder into the jelly portion until fully mixed. Test a small amount of the colored jelly on your finger and rub onto lips to determine the right color. Add more powder for a deeper color, or add more jelly to lighten the gloss. Once the color is right, scoop out the jelly and put into an old lip gloss tin, pill case, or any small container! This is a quick and easy personalized lip gloss!
For variations to the recipe, simply add a little of the drink powder to real petroleum jelly. Or, for a super-natural gloss, mash a couple cherries and add the juice and small pieces to your home-made non-petroleum jelly for a deep red, cherry-flavored gloss! The beeswax and vegetable oil combined with the cherries makes for a super-moisturizing gloss. The homemade jelly without any color can also be used as a clear lip gloss. It can also be used like petroleum jelly, for moisturizing chapped skin, smoothing and styling hair, soothing razor burn and softening hands and cuticles. Another great use is to put a coat of the non-petroleum jelly onto eyelashes as clear mascara. The beeswax will hold the lashes better than regular petroleum jelly as wax is naturally stiff!
