Easy Orange Juice Based Cocktails

Darlene Michaud
Orange juice is a very popular juice to use in cocktails. Below are just a few of the easiest and most popular ones you might like to make.

Screwdriver

A screwdriver is about one of the easiest cocktails to make. To make a Screwdriver you will need the following ingredients:

2 ounces vodka
orange juice
ice

Fill a highball about 3/4 full of ice. Pour in the vodka then fill to the top with orange juice. Stir and serve.

Harvey Wallbanger

There are several ways to make a Harvey Wallbanger. This is the classic recipe. To make a classic Harvey Wallbanger, you will need:

2 ounces vodka
orange juice
Galliano herbal liqueur
ice

Add ice to a collins glass. Pour in the vodka then fill nearly to the top with orange juice. Cover the drink with a cocktail shaker and shake. Float a tablespoon of Galliano on the top of the drink and serve.

Tequila Sunrise

The Tequila Sunrise gets its name from the way the drink looks. The grenadine sinks to the bottom of the drink then starts to float back to the top. The mix of the grenadine and the orange juice looks like the colors of a sunrise. To make a Tequila Sunrise, you will need:

2 ounces gold tequila
orange juice
grenadine syrup
slice of orange
maraschino cherry
ice

Add ice to a highball glass so it's about half filled. Pour in the vodka then fill with orange juice and stir. Tip the glass to the side a bit and pour the grenadine against the side of the glass, letting it sink to the bottom. Do not stir. Garnish with an orange slice and cherry on a cocktail pick and serve.

If you like rum, you can substitute rum for any of the liquors mentioned above. If you substitute the tequila for rum in the tequila sunrise, then just call it a rum sunrise instead!

If you like orange juice, but don't like it full strength, you can always cut your orange juice with a bit of water. Three parts orange juice and one part water is good. Another way you can cut back on the orange juice is to top off your drink with a splash of club soda or seltzer.

You don't have to get too fancy to make an orange juice based drink. Practically any liquor will mix well with orange juice. So, if you don't care for the recipes above, you can try to make up your own!
