Easy Peasy Baby Blanket to Crochet

Just Learning to Crochet? Need a Quick Baby Gift?

Marie Anne St. Jean
If you're just learning to crochet or need to complete a baby blanket quickly for an unexpected gift, this pattern may be just what you're looking for. It is made up of all DC (double crochet) stitches worked in the back loop only, so it really is easy peasy!

Working in just the back loop gives the blanket a bit of a ridge. Changing colors and having to weave in ends every few rows can cut into your crochet time, so use a variegated yarn if you don't want a blanket in a single color.

The Easy Peasy Baby Blanket is a great first project, even for a child. It's also a nice pattern to work up baby blankets for charity. The simple repetition may be a nice break between other more complicated and tedious projects.

Pattern Difficulty = Easy

Abbreviations:

Ch = chain
DC = double crochet
Sk = skip
Sp = space
St = stitch
BLO = back loop only

Materials Needed

Crochet Hook Size H
Any worsted weight yarn
(20 oz of worsted weight yarn will make a blanket approx 32"W x 36"L)

Easy Peasy Baby Blanket Pattern

With size H crochet hook, ch 118.

Row 1: In back loop only, DC in 4th ch from hook (counts as first DC) and each of next 11 stitches, *ch 1, sk 1, in BLO, DC next 12 stitches. Repeat from * across. Ch 2, turn

Row 2 (pattern row): In back loop only, DC in second stitch and each of next 11 stitches, *ch 1, sk 1, in BLO, DC next 12 stitches. Repeat from * across. Ch 2, turn.

Continue in pattern row until blanket is desired size. Work a single crochet border around all four sides if desired. Bind off, weave in ends.

Note: Once you do the first row of this pattern, there's really no counting involved. It'll be easy to recognize that you'll be placing the 12 DCs on top of same in the previous row, and chain and skip a stitch above the hole made by same in the previous row. What could be simpler than that? No stitch or row counters, no tick marks on scraps of paper, no having to rip out hours of work because you found a mistake several rows below.

Easy peasy!
