Easy Plain and Simple Scarf

Easiest Scarf Pattern that Anyone Can Make

Marie Anne St. Jean
This crochet scarf pattern is very easy and should be able to be mastered by even a beginner. If you are looking for a scarf that isn't thick and bulky, this pattern would be perfect. It is done with a woven-look stitch that is suitable for a man, yet the pattern can be splashed up with color for any member of the family. Following this pattern, you can easily complete a scarf in one evening.

This scarf pattern is provided free and may not be sold. You may sell the items you make from the pattern, but you may not sell the scarf pattern itself.

I'd love for you to share the scarf pattern with others or on your own site/blog, but please provide the link to this article and not simply copy the pattern itself.

Directions for Plain and Simple Scarf

Abbreviations:

ch = chain
sc = single crochet
sk = skip
sp = space

Size J crochet hook and starting chain of 20 should result in a scarf approx 5" wide. To make the scarf wider or if you'd prefer a skinny scarf, simply increase or decrease the starting chain in increments of two.

With size J hook and worsted weight yarn, ch 20.

Row 1: SC in second ch from hook, *ch 1, sk 1 ch, sc in next*. Repeat from * to *, ending with sc in last ch. Ch 1, turn.

Row 2: SC in first ch 1 sp, *ch 1, sc in next ch 1 sp*. Repeat from * to *, ending with sc in turning ch. Ch 1, turn.

Repeat row 2 until you reach desired length. If you'd like a more finished look, you can make a simple sc border around the scarf, putting 3 sc stitches in each corner. Bind off.

You can make a mini scarf of 18-20" very quickly that will tuck inside a coat, or make a long, skinny scarf that can be wrapped several times or simply draped around the neck.

Even the longer version doesn't take much time at all, and the scarf I did that measured 5" wide by 71" long still took less than a 7oz skein of worsted weight yarn. If you are making a mini scarf or scarfette, you should be able to get two or three from a 7oz skein.

The possibilities are endless with this simple pattern. Be sure to check out the additional photos above to see more color variations.

    I need to show my sister your patterns. She's better at crocheting and knitting than I am and she's always looking for new patterns. Thanks :)

    Yeah, sure, but in the first place you have to be sober and second, it helps if you only have two thumbs, in separate hands.

    I have done crochet before but never from a pattern - my mother would have loved this.

    I have never tried crochet before, but whenever I see reference to it like this article it reminds me of my grandmother, who was (in my mind) a master! Thanks for the memory!

    I think I mentioned before that I have not crocheted in years, but I sure would like to give it a whirl again during the long winter months! I believe I bookmarked another pattern you provided and I will do the same with this one because I think even I can handle this one!
