Easy Rainy Day Kid Crafts

Keep the Kids Busy with Easy to Make Crafts

Wendy Adams
Homemade crafts projects are easy to make and can be used as teaching aids for kids. Crafting stimulates the imagination, inspires self expression, encourages creativity, and brightens up any rainy afternoon for kids. Crafts can be made from paper plates, paper bags, construction paper, and many ordinary household items.

Humpty Dumpty Finger Puppet

Draw a large egg shape on a white paper plate. Draw two holes in the bottom of the egg shape large enough for finger to fit through. Cut out the egg shape and cut out the finger holes. Draw a horizontal line the in middle of the eggs. Paint or color the bottom of the half blue for pants. Draw and color in a shirt, bow tie, and shirt pocket above the line. Draw bright red suspenders to match the tie. Draw two eyes, or glue on 2 buttons, or use googly eyes. Draw a mouth to finish the face.

Paper Family Tree

Draw the outline of a tree with branches on construction paper. Color the tree with crayons, markers, or craft paint. Cut several leaf shapes from green construction paper large enough to write a name on. Write the name of a family member on each leaf and glue the leaves to the tree starting with the lowest branches for the grandparents. Each generation of the family will move up to the next branch on the tree.

Toilet Paper Roll Octopus

Cut 8 tentacles by making the first cut to the middle of the roll. Cut the second slit opposite the first. Cut the third slit half between slit 1 and 2. Cut the fourth slit opposite of the third slit. Cut all 4 sections in half to make 8 equal size tentacles. Curl each tentacle upward using a pencil. Paint the Octopus with acrylic or tempura paint and let dry. Draw eyes and a smile. Draw suction cups on the inside of the tentacles with colored markers.

Paper Bag Frog Puppet

Cut 2 ovals 3" long out of green construction paper to make frog eyes. Cut one end off each piece to make it straight and fold the straight end up ½". Cut 2 white 1" circles and 2 black ½" circles from construction paper. Glue the white circles on the green ovals and glue the black circles on the white circles. Turn the paper bag upside down with the bottom facing you. Glue the eyes, with the folded flap behind, to the top edge of the bottom of the paper bag. Cut a long tongue from red construction paper and glue it to the underside of the bottom flap. Cut 2 frog legs and 2 frog arms from green construction paper and glue them on each side behind the first fold of the bag. Cut several small circles from green construction paper and glue 3 to the face and the rest to the body of the frog.
