Easy Recipe for Kids: Mother's Day Dump Cake

Jessie Penn
Kids love to help in the kitchen, and when they can make something all by themselves it is even more special and fun. This recipe is especially designed for kids to bake. The recipe is so easy and there's no mixing required. Canned fruits, cake mix, butter and nuts are 'dumped' into a pan and baked. And, it comes out amazingly pretty and tastes great!

Preparation Time: 10 Minutes

Cook Time: 1 hour

INGREDIENTS:

1 (20 ounce) can crushed pineapple (do not drain)

1 (21 ounces) can prepared fruit cherry pie filling

1 box of yellow cake mix

2 sticks of butter or margarine (each stick cut into 12 slices)

ΒΌ cup chopped nuts (your choice - optional)

PREPARATION:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. (325 for glass baking dish).

Dump the undrained pineapple into a 9 x 13-inch baking pan and spread evenly.

Use a spoon to drop globs of cherry pie filling around on top of the pineapple.

Sprinkle the cake mix evenly over the cherry and pineapple layers.

Place the slices of butter evenly over the cake mix.

Sprinkle nuts on top (if you're using them)

Put the pan into the preheated oven and bake for 1 hour.

Scoop the cake out with a large spoon (like a cobbler) and 'dump' it on individual serving plates. A big scoop of vanilla ice cream makes this 'dump' cake even more delicious!

Makes about 10-12 servings.

This was a favorite of my grandmother's, who passed a year ago in August. Thank you for the very happy memory, I will be making this soon, to eat piping hot with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and I'll lift a spoon to my grandmother.
