Easy Recipes Not Involving Cooking

For the Time or Skill Strapped Set

Austin Post
So you are sitting at home and you want something quick to eat, or you are having a party later and need a side or some light food. What do you do if you can't cook because of time or don't want to cook because of skill. Well, you can give up, or you can try these excellent recipes. They are ones that I have tried personally and which do not involve cooking or heating of any kind.

SUMMER SAUSAGE SANDWICHES

One of my favorites. I actually invented this on a whim one day when I had these ingredients with me when I had to take a sack lunch somewhere.

Ingredients: Summer sausage, Ritz crackers, mozzarella cheese (non-shredded).

Serves: Unlimited.

Instructions: Take some summer sausage (you might want to select especially for size) and some ritz crackers. Slice the summer sausage and place it on a regular sized Ritz cracker. Then take a little bit of unshredded mozzarella cheese and place it on top of the summer sausage, then top it off with another Ritz to complete a "sandwich." I'd recommend some of the spicier varieties of summer sausage. In the end this will give the concoction a vaguely Italian taste.

SWEET HAM/TURKEY PITA

Some would write it off as a "weird" recipe, but don't fall into that trap because it is incredibly tasty.

Ingredients: Pita bread, cold smoked turkey or ham, jam (strawberry or cranberry recommended).

Serves: One

Instructions: So we all know that pita bread comes with a pocket of sorts. Well it is a good thing to utilize for stuffing. In this case I have chosen to go radical although with excellent results. I take smoked turkey or ham (cold) and stuff it into the pita, then I put strawberry (for both turkey or ham) or cranberry (turkey only) into it. I know it sounds odd but it is good, combining the meat with the sweet!

COLD SPICY NACHOS

I don't know about you, but I like nachos. I also absolutely must have them with salsa on top of them (personal habit). Here is a variety that doesn't involve cooking.

Ingredients: Tostito's scoops chips (the kind molded into the bowl), bar cheese (faintly spicy cheese spread that comes generally in a plastic container), salsa and/or hot sauce.

Serves: Unlimited.

Instructions: Dab the bar cheese into the cup of the chip and place the salsa over it. It's that simple. It is the solution if you want nachos but have nothing to melt the cheese with.

PROTEIN DELIGHT

The key is in the saltiness of the peanut butter.

Ingredients: Ritz crackers, beef jerky, peanut butter, salt.

Serves: Unlimited

Instructions: I know it has a weird name but that's just because of the aforementioned ingredients. Call it whatever you like. Anyway, to prepare it you want to put some peanut butter on a Ritz. Now it does not work if it is sweet peanut butter so it might actually make some sense to add salt to it. If not, I have seen some "all natural" peanut butter that is not nearly as sweet as the processed kind made by Jif and other companies. Then cut up the jerky and put it on top. It has an interesting taste which nonetheless is good.

Now we come to the conclusion. If you haven't noticed I am the kind of guy who likes to mix and match unlikely ingredients. Don't be afraid to try this for yourself, because the conclusion you come to may be excellent.
