More Materials To Be Discussed
To get started you want to start cutting out fun old looking letter storm magazine, newspaper, and other sources. Look for retro letters that look like typewriter font or even calligraphy. Cut out the letters you need to spell a favorite poem or anything you wish to write.
Blow each letter up to about 6 inches tall. Now, trace each letter onto your linoleum blocks. These can be bought in all sizes at the local craft store.
You want to trace the letters on backwards so when you print them they come out the correct direction. Cut out the negative space with your linoleum cutting tool.
Paint out your pre stretches canvas in a fun retro color to compliment this art project Robins egg blue, retro pink, and banana yellow are all perfect colors for decorating a vintage room or retro décor.
Once this paint dries you want to roll ink, linoleum ink, onto the letters you cut out. Press them onto the canvas. These will not print perfectly, but that is the look for this retro art project.
Once you have finished stamping all your letters you will want to let them dry. You can add more detail using splattered paint, outlining with paint pens and more.
Tips: Think about what room you will be using this retro art project in. If it is the kitchen, then why not spell out fun words like "recipes," "home cooking'" and other fun coking words.
For the bedroom you could use words with sleep themes, relaxing themes, soothing themes and more. If you make your retro wall art project on a large scale it could also double as headboard in a bedroom.
Finally, this retro wall art project also works great in a family game room. Have each member make one as wall art with retro board game names on them! This sets a fun retro game theme and gives you great home made art at the same time.
Finally, tip: To save time use rubber stamps. You can make the letters on a much smaller scale, but keep the canvas large!
