Easy Reversible Curtain Sewing Pattern

Ann Siper
This easy reversible curtain tutorial is a fun pattern that allows you to create custom curtains and get two looks in one. Reversible curtains are a fun way to get a couple looks out of one set of curtains without having to store the others away. This easy curtain pattern does require a sewing machine, but the sewing is very easy and mostly straight lines.

To Make Your Reversible Curtains from this Tutorial You Will Need:

Measuring Tape

2 Fabrics

Sewing Machine

Scissors

Pins

Iron

Thread

To get started you need to measure your window. Measure the height from the top of the curtain rod to the floor or right below the windowsill. Basically you want to measure how tall you need to make you curtains. Repeat this step for the width.

Once you have the height and width determined you want to cut out your curtain panels. Add one inch to the width and one inch to the height. This will give you a ½ inch seam allowance on all sides of the curtain panels.

Cut out your curtain panels. The first fabric will be referred to as side A and the second fabric as side B panels from this point.

Go ahead and iron the curtain panels. Take one of your side A panels and lay it out on a flat surface pattern side up. Next, take one of the coordinating B panels and lay it pattern side down on top the side A panel.

You should have the patterns facing each other. Pin into place.

Sew across the tops of the panels using a ½ inch seam allowance. Sew all the way from the right side to the left side.

Now, mark off enough space at the top left and right of the panels for your curtain rod to slide through. If you have a 1 inch curtain rod you will want to leave a 2 inch opening at the top of the panel on each side. I like to double this to make sure the rod will easily slide through. This is the top left and right corner.

Now, starting at the top left corner, starting right below the opening you are leaving for the curtain rod sew down the side of the panel. Continue sewing across the bottom. Stop a few inches from the middle to leave an opening to turn the reversible curtain panel inside out.

Continue sewing along the bottom and then up the right side until you reach the opening you are leaving for the curtain rod.

Turn the curtain panel inside out through the opening you left in the bottom.

Iron the panel flat. Turn the rough edges in on the bottom opening to line up with the rest of the hem of the reversible curtain. You can sew a topstitch along the bottom of the panel to close the opening or do an invisible stitch by hand.

Next, right below the opening you left for the curtain rod sew a straight line across the panel of the curtain. This will finish off your opening pocket for the curtain rod.

Your reversible curtain panel pattern is complete. Repeat this process on as many reversible curtain panels as you need.
