I came up with this idea for a scrapbook to put artwork or graded papers in after I found myself sitting among piles of my kids art work. I did not realize that I had kept so many things from their grade school years, until I decided to go through it all. The process was a bit overwhelming and so I only worked on it when I had time, which was usually in the evenings.
First I sorted all the papers into two piles, one pile was art work and the other one was graded school papers. I went through each pile and took out only the school work that was special or had a good grade on it. The art work was done in the same way. This next step really took some will power. I threw away the rest of the art work and school papers that I wasn't going to use.
I then started to make the scrapbook. I set the scrapbook up by school years starting with pre-school and going through the sixth grade. Then I decided what order I wanted to put the art work and school papers in. I glued the art work and school papers using a good quality glue stick on heavy card stock. Then I put any journaling on the page that I thought was necessary.
After I completed all my pages, I then put them in the scrapbook. The scrapbook was now finished and ready to be enjoyed.
Here are the items you will need to make a scrapbook for your child. You will need a 12" x 12" post bound scrapbook, extra pack of 12' x 12" top loading sleeves and pages, glue sticks, glue dots, scissors, pens, markers, stickers for use as accent pieces and heavy card stock.
Using a post bound scrapbook is the best thing to do. The scrapbook will easily come a part if you need to add more pages or sleeves. Scrapbooks come with a lot of different cover styles. I always use the scrapbooks that have leather covers. I do this because leather is a stronger material and will last a long time, especially if the scrapbook is looked at a lot.
This is the set up I used for my scrapbook. There are so many ways and themes to use when making a scrapbook. Do whatever works for you.
Once you get started with the scrapbook the whole process will go very quickly. The scrapbook can be completed in one weekend and is very easy to make. You don't even need to have any scrapbooking skills to make one.
I will always have this scrapbook full of memories to share with my sons and this could be a scrapbook of memories for you too.
