Easy and Simple Decorating Ideas for Your Living Room

Decorating a living room does not have to be costly, nor does redecorating. There are plenty of easy ways or simple techniques that can be used to decorate a living room. Here are just a few quick and easy projects and ideas to help get you started with your living room decor.

Paint

Repainting your living room or even adding an accent wall in a different color is an easy way to add interest to your living room's decor. You can even choose a color from your existing pieces of furniture; or consider going a shade or two lighter or darker than what your walls currently are.

If you're daring enough, perhaps you should consider painting your coffee table (or an accent table or some other piece of furniture) some wild, funky new color. It will create interest and be a natural conversation piece.

Books and Bookshelves

Perhaps you've kept all of your books out of the way in stacks in your bedroom closet or elsewhere in your home. Why not display all of these books in your living room on bookshelves. Bookshelves can be purchased for relatively little cash and can dramatically change the feel of your living room.

Furniture

Changing around your furniture layout is a simple way to give your living room a face lift. If you can't rearrange your living room, consider getting some furniture covers, new throw pillows or blankets to change the color of the room without spending a lot of extra cash.

Artwork

Whether you design your own or find a new piece at the store, adding new or changing out the artwork in your living room is an easy way to decorate and spruce things up.

Create a Point of Interest

Grouping like objects together, whether they be statues, vintage cameras, framed photos or something of the like, helps to create a focal point in the room. These items don't all have to be the same either. Consider creating a theme such as a typewriter, printing blocks, large letters and a cup of pencils or pens. Grouping these items together, though they are all different, helps to make a decorate statement that's unique to your home, even if the items themselves are not.

New Lamps

Lamps are used on a regular basis in a living room and though they may last for ages, sometimes it's just time to replace them because they no longer fit the look of the living room or you've simply outgrown them. Lamps are an easy fix and can be found in many major retailers, so finding new lamps; whether they are floor lamps or table lamps, is quick and simple.

Repurpose

Repurposing old furniture or other items is a great way to add flair to a living room. Try to think outside the box: use your old kitchen cart as a side table and paint it a fun color, turn an old window into a coffee table or use shutters (and hang them on the wall) and clothing pins to clip on and show off new and old photographs.
