Celebrate your kids' dad-or your own-this Father's Day by giving the gift of good health! These sneaky little steps will help keep the man of the house strong and healthy (without his knowledge if necessary!).

Keep him moving

Researchers at the University Medical Center in Rotterdam found that people who commit to a regular routine of moderate to intense exercise can increase their lifespan by almost 4 years. So invite your husband to walk to a local fro-yo spot with you a couple evenings a week, to take you dancing, or to do any other kind of cardio that can be camouflaged. It will boost his health and is a great opportunity for you two to spend some quality time together.

Feed him LOTS of fruits and veggies

That old "apple a day" directive's no joke. Numerous studies have documented the health benefits of diets rich in fruits and vegetables. A recent study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that consuming 5-9 servings of fruits and vegetables per day (particularly those high in vitamin C) decreases the risk of stroke by 42 percent! So if encouraging dad to eat his fruits and veggies hasn't proven effective start whipping up multi-fruit smoothies for dessert, adding a big green salad to each dinner and keeping a bowl of cut up fruit in the fridge for easy snacking.

Play games

The mind is a terrible thing to waste. Just as it's important for dad to exercise his muscles, it's also important for him to exercise his brain to stay mentally fit. Research has shown that mental exercise can positively affect both memory and physical coordination. And contrary to many people's assumptions it's not important just for those nearing retirement. So wrap your mind around learning a new skill - think chess, tennis, or even bingo - you'll both benefit from anything that gets your minds reeling and allows you to hang out together.
