Easy Snowman Christmas Crafts

Every year your child is changing. It is a great thing to look back, especially at Christmas at how they have changed. A great way to do this is to let them make Christmas ornaments and decorations. You let them pick out the details and next year you can look at them and see changes from the previous year. Maybe their favorite colors have changed, or how much more control they have with the details. Here are some of the crafts / decorations that you can make with your children.

Snowman Ornament

You need : popsicle stick

white construction paper, black construction paper, scrap colored paper

3 circle shapes ( 1-small, 1-medium, 1-large)

markers or crayons

glue dots

string

scissors

1. First you use the different sized circle shapes, (I use lids from my kitchen), you want 1-small(for the head), 1-medium(for the middle body), and 1-large(for the bottom body). You don't want the circles to be too big for when you glue them onto the popsicle stick. You use these different sized circles to trace onto the white construction paper.

2. Then you cut out the circles, laying them out the way they will go onto the popsicle stick.

3. Then you take the markers or crayons and color your snowman, so that he has eyes, nose, and a mouth.

4. You use the black construction paper for a hat. Cut it out and use a glue dot to attach it to the top of the small circle(head).

5. After you have finished decorating/coloring your snowman, you will use the glue dots to attach the three circles onto the posicle stick. Put the first circle(the large circle) on first. Then the medium sized circle, then the small one (the head).

6. Now you can add the finishing touches : like a red strip of construction paper for the scarf, or some other last minute idea. Just use your glue dots.

7. Finally you will use the glue dots to attach a piece of string to the back of the popsicle stick so that you can now hang your snowman on your tree.

This one is similar to the one above except we use it as Christmas cards to send to grandparents. Plus the doilies actually look like snowflakes so it gives that added snowy look.

Snowman Christmas Card

You need : Construction paper

Different sized doilies ( at least 2 different sizes )

markers, crayons

scissors

glue dots

1. Each child picks out their favorite color of construction paper. If you don't have many to choose from, or if you only have one color, just hand out the paper.

2. They sort out their doilies for size. Small for top, big for bottom.

3. They use their markers and crayons to decorate. Always color before you glue, because sometimes the glue makes it hard to color because of bumps, and you have to wait for it to dry before you can color. This way the waiting is after the kids are finished.

4. Glue the colored doilies onto the construction paper. Add last minute things like a scarf, or broom, or hat now.

5. Now the kids can write on their finished papers, Merry Christmas or Seasons Greetings. This is also when the artist should sign, or have a parent write, their name on their art. Now their homemade Christmas Snowman Card is ready to be mailed or given to a loved one.

This is one of the old Snowman Christmas Crafts from when I was in school. This one is easy enough for all ages, as long as they don't eat the glue, or cotton balls.

Fluffy The Snowman

You need : Construction paper

cotton balls ( lots )

glue ( liquid )

paint

styrofoam saucer

1. First you trace 1 large circle at the bottom of the page, then one smaller circle at the top of the page.

2. Pour some of the glue into the styrofoam saucer, give it to your child.

3. Let the kids take the cotton balls and dip them into the glue. Show them that you only use a little if you want the cotton balls to be fluffy. Then they stick them on the paper inside of the circles.

4. Then they can use the paint to decorate.

This is a great craft for children, from 1 - 10 years old. They can play with the shape of their snowman, and also get the hands on feel of creating.

These are some of the simple and easy to make Snowman Crafts. I tried to use only materials that you might already have on hand. I use these when the kids are out of school for Christmas break, they are having fun and are not telling me they are bored. Making crafts and decorations is a wonderful way of looking back. Many years down the road, if you save them, you will be decorating your house or your tree, and have precious pieces of your child to to help you remember when. Always put your childs initials and the date, so you will always know how old they were.
