The snowman clothespin ornament is so easy to make and even a child would easily be able to make it with a little adult guidance. I had my second grade students make this snowman ornament as a gift for their parents at the holidays and the students needed minimal help and they were so excited at the results.
This easy ornament would also be great to make in bulk to hang in your own home and/or to give out as small gifts, the clothespins could even be personalized by writing the recipients name on the clothespin in a vertical manner.
Materials:
- Wood clothespin
- Ribbon
- Acorn cap (see the 3 photos of this ornament)
- Toothpick
- White, black and orange craft paint
- Blush
- Fishing line or yarn
- Paintbrushes
- Glue
- Q-tip
Directions:
1. Paint the wood clothespin using the white craft paint, make sure to paint multiple coats to cover the clothespin thoroughly.
2. Paint black buttons and black eyes on to the snowman clothespin, add a name at this time if you choose to personalize it.
3. Paint half of a toothpick orange and cut off the desired length to use as a nose. Glue the toothpick on the snowman's face in the general nose area.
4. Glue the acorn cap on to the snowman's head.
5. Tie the fishing line or yarn around the snowman's neck so it is a loop long enough to hang.
6. Tie a ribbon around the snowman's neck making sure to cover the fishing line or yarn.
7. Add a little pink blush using a q-tip to make the snowman's cheeks a little rosy.
The easy snowman clothespin ornament is really simple to make and fast too. If you choose to make the easy ornaments in bulk, I would recommend painting all the ornaments white, then painting the black buttons and eyes next etc. It is quicker to do each step on all the ornaments rather than attempting to complete all the steps on one individual ornament at a time.
Snowman ornaments make great gifts and are also a fun winter craft for kids and adults alike to work on when the snow is mounting outside and indoor fun is necessary!
