Beautiful shiny furniture will start losing it's luster over time making it dull and unappealing to the eye. Instead of purchasing new furniture you could revamp the furniture you have. There are refinishing furniture ideas that can be used to bring life back to dull lifeless furniture and make it look almost brand new once again.

The kitchen is a busy place in most homes. Kitchen cabinets and cupboards will start to deteriorate with continued use. It is more economical to refinish your cabinets and cupboards rather than replacing them. Refinishing is not a hard task and can quite easily be accomplished in a short period of time. First, start with sanding down each surface and removing all dust after your done. This allows the paint to be applied more smoothly and adhere better to the cabinets. Next, go over each cabinet or cupboard with a furniture primer, making sure it dries well before adding coat of paint. When choosing your paint color, consider color of kitchen walls and size of room. Smaller kitchens can be enhanced with lighter shades of paint and will give the appearance of more space.

Worn out iron tables and chairs will look refreshed with a new paint job. Water based paint or the acrylic spray can paint works best for iron furniture. The cushions can be updated by adding a little extra stuffing to the insides giving them more fluff and added comfort. Another option is to have cushions reupholstered by a professional. Wood furniture should be stained or dyed while staining will not only beautify the wood but protect it as well from extreme weather conditions.

When trying to spruce up a bed you could choose to paint or stain the frame, head post and footboards. Purchasing a new mattress will also help revitalize ur bedroom. On the other hand, a sofa will usually require the use of a professional upholster. This can be expensive but generally not as high as the purchase of a brand new one.

Antiquing furniture is a very popular refinishing furniture idea. It consist of making furniture look old and distressed. Although this look is widely used and loved by many, it is not for everyone. If you have a home with modern accessories it will not blend well with the décor of the room.
