Easy Spring Craft: Make a Lemon Wreath

Lisa Riggs
While storing my Christmas decorations, I came across a box of Spring crafts that I had made several years ago. One of my favorites is my lemon wreath. This very easy to make craft project can be completed in a few hours and grace your front door all during the Spring season. When cleaned and stored properly, this wreath will last many seasons and bring joy for many years.

Supplies Needed: I loved how simple this wreath was, with only a few necessary supplies. A Styrofoam ring, ten artificial lemons, three six inch garlands of leafy greenery, wide yellow plaid ribbon, twelve floral pins and a hot glue gun are all the items needed to create this beautiful wreath. Purchasing several extra lemons, craft pins and lengths of greenery will ensure that you have enough supplies should any mistakes be made. The extras can be used to replace any pieces that get damaged or dirty or added to your stockpile of craft supplies for future projects.

Getting Started: Begin your project by laying several sheets of newspaper over a flat surface. Lay your Styrofoam ring in the center of your work space. Insert a fresh glue stick into your gun and plug into a nearby outlet. Stack the artificial lemons in a container or box to keep them stable while working. Open the package of floral pins and remove the paper or plastic tags from the greenery. Keep all the materials close at hand, but free and clear from the glue gun.

Creating Your Lemon Wreath: Start your wreath by arranging the greenery in an attractive pattern over the ring. Lay the garlands in such a way that some of the leaves point up and some turn towards the bottom. Take care to cover every inch of white so that only a complete ring of leaves can be seen. Once you are happy with your design, use the glue gun to add a dab of glue behind all the leaves that need to adhere to the wreath. Many of the top layers of leaves will be held in place by the floral pins, so not every leaf needs to be glued. Use the glue sparingly and hold each one in place for a second or two to ensure proper attachment. Once the garlands are in place, use a floral pin to poke through the back of a lemon and then through the wreath. Go around the ring and attach a lemon every inch or so. Do not worry about perfect placement. The bright sunny color of this craft project allows for imperfection. Leave about six inches across the top of the wreath free for the bow. Once you are pleased with how the artificial fruit looks, use your plaid ribbon to make a bold and beautiful bow. A wired ribbon will allow you to make a more defined decoration and curl the ends in an attractive way.

This fun and sunny Spring decoration can be hung on an outside door to greet friends and family or in a kitchen that has a country theme.
