1. Sheets of Drywall
" The amount of sheet's depend on the project "
2. Drywall Screws
" These are inexpensive I would buy enough to over do the project "
3. Electric Screw Driver
" Drywall nails can be used also "
4. Drywall Mud
" I highly recommend the quick drying thirty minute "
5. Drywall Tape
" Any generic Drywall Tape will do "
6. Light Sandpaper
" Medium Grade works best "
7. Drywall Knife
" Used to spread mud "
8. Box Cutter
" Used for cutting different size Drywall pieces out.
Instructions:
1. Remove the plastic that hold together both pieces of Drywall and place the Drywall in place with the wall.
" Or cut into shape of piece needed "
2. Place screws every 6 to 7 inches apart in to the wood 2x4 studs.
" There is special bits you can buy for your screwdriver to stop exactly when the screw hits the drywall "
3. Do step two multiple times with other Drywall sheets if creating walls.
4. Use Drywall knife to apply a layer of Drywall mud over the Drywall Tape, These are applied to all joints of the Drywall.
" This layer should cover the tape complete and overlay about one to two inches "
5. Wait for Drywall Mud to dry.
" All mud's dry all different time's I prefer to use the quick 30 minute mud "
6. Use Sandpaper on the area covered with mud to sand smooth.
" I recommend medium grade Sandpaper "
7. A optional thing you can do is texture the Drywall this will hide any imperfections on the wall & tape. This is easily done with many different tools the one I highly recommend is a Crows Foot. This is a brush that appears to be a flat broom. All you do is thin out the Drywall mud with a little water and you put your brush in it and apply it to the wall. Once the wall is covered let dry then paint!
The same tips can be used to patch holes in Drywall. If you are adding Drywall to the ceiling please have a friend help or buy the correct tools needed to get the job done. Also always work in a well ventilated place so you do not have problems breathing in all the dust caused from sanding. Also always wear safety goggles and always following instructions on products such as Drywall Mud.
Also remember to use plastic on the floor and masking tape on anything you do not want to get mud on.
