Easy Steps to Carving Your First Pumpkin

Pumpkin Carving Made Simple

I have been carving pumpkins for only 3 years now and I must say before I started carving them I always assume that it would be a very difficult task. Carving pumpkins is one of the most easiest things to do around Halloween time you would probably have more problems finding that perfect costume than carving your pumpkin. The main and first thing that you want to do is decide what type of face you want your pumpkin to have draw this out on paper so you will already know how you want your pumpkin to appear once you see it on paper. Then you can draw it on your pumpkin be sure to use the washable type markers so you want leave any marks that can't be gotten off.

After you have decided what type face you want your pumpkin to have, then you will decide the location of where you want to begin your carving I suggest somewhere outdoors, porch, or patio because there will be a slight mess to clean and I don't think you would want this in your home. Where ever you decide to carve be aware that you will need some type newspaper or plastic or an old sheet this is to put underneath for all seeds and juices inside the pumpkin. If you have old grocery shopping bags they will work also, once you have that down then you can begin.

If you have went out and purchased a pumpkin cutting saw then that is fine, but if not a normal knife will do the job indeed. Since you are a beginner you probably need to let your first try be from the bottom of the pumpkin. You can start cutting on top of the pumpkin, but considering you are a first timer let try to get familiar with it first just in cause of a error it is less likely to see it from the bottom of the bottom unlike the top. What you are trying to cut is a circle/hole the size that you want the hole could vary, but to make it simple go with a hole that is larger enough only for your hand to reach inside.

Once you have completely cut the hole now is the time to get all the seeds and strings out of the pumpkin be sure that you cut a small hole in the back of your pumpkin around the size of a quarter this reason is just in case you need to round a cord for the purpose of lighting. Remove everything from out the pumpkin with a large spoon, after you are finish it should look completely clean inside. Then you can cut out the face as I told you to draw it out before once this is done you will be all complete you can test out how it looks by putting a candle in or a flashlight to see just how brilliant your first time pumpkin appear. Now was't that simple and note that this is not time consuming if you are only doing one if more your timing will vary.
