Easy Summer Styles for Ethnic Hair

Angie M
Ethnic hair can be hard to tame, especially in the hot summer months. It's really difficult to maintain a perm or natural style due to the humidity. Keeping it simple is the key. You need something that can be easily maintained and will look great. There are a few hairdo's that are always in style that are fairly simple to do. Read on to see how to keep your hair looking its best this summer.

The low ponytail is one of the easiest hairstyles. It requires minimal time and effort. The look can be versatile so you always have something fresh. One of my favorites is pull my hair back and add side swept bangs. If you have a special occasion and want something a little more sleek, you can pull the hair back low and to the side. Add bangs and you have a very classy hairstyle without a lot of fuss.

Sweep your hair up. Think the ethnic version of Jackie O. If you have a short forehead, I wouldn't do bangs with an up sweep but you can do multiple things with this. Leave a few curls down. If your hair is chemically straightened, use a medium barrel curling iron and create a few. Just try to make sure that it looks natural. Another thing you can do is put the curls on top instead. If you want to add your own spin or personal touch, use small braids for your up sweep. Literally, sweep your hair up using small braids in even sections. This is a really fun hairstyle.

The bun has been revived and with the texture of ethnic hair, it typically stays in place better. What I like about the bun is that it can be worn to the office, out on the weekend, or at the beach. It always looks great. The only thing you really need to create this look is a scrunchie or hair pins. You can glam it up or down by the size or location. Some like to wear it high on the head, others lower. The size of the bun is completely up to you. Like the rest of these styles, it can be worn with or without bangs.

Ethnic hair can take a beating in the summer. These hairstyles will help keep it fresh and pretty. What I really like is that none of these styles require a lot of maintenance. Most don't even require any type of hair spray or gel to keep them in place. However, if you do find that you have strays that need tamed try using beeswax or adding a headband. You are sure to be in style.
