First of all, whenever I think of Thanksgiving, I always picture those beautiful cornucopias overflowing with fruits, veggies, and other wonderful goodies. A cornucopia centerpiece on your coffee table would be a perfect Thanksgiving decoration. Craft stores such as Hobby Lobby always have cornucopia centerpieces for sale at this time of year which range from very simple to super fancy with flowers, leaves, and wheat thrown into the mix of delectable plastic fruits and veggies. A nice touch to this centerpiece would be a few little miniature pumpkins placed around the cornucopia, which you can pick up at any local supermarket.
Another fabulous idea for decorating a living room with the look of Thanksgiving, is to wrap a garland of Autumn leaves around the rod of your curtains, as it adds a distinct Fall touch and the colors are consistent with the oranges and reds associated with Thanksgiving. You can find these leafy garlands at drug stores such as Walgreens or at a craft store. I usually buy several garlands and wrap them around my curtain rod with the long ends cascading down the sides of my window, creating a very enchanting effect!
Finally, we cannot forget the icons of Thanksgiving: turkeys, Pilgrims, pumpkins, and of course Indians. Craft stores sell knick-knacks of the aforementioned characters by the boatload and there are always so many to choose from! My own personal favorite place to buy Thanksgiving knick-knacks is The Cracker Barrel Old Country Store. They always carry a wide assortment of decor for all the holidays and in recent years, Thanksgiving has just as many to choose from as Christmas and Halloween. Scatter these classic Thanksgiving icons all thru-out your living room for a festive finishing touch. (Note: a very resourceful and cost efficient thing to do is turn all your Halloween Jack-O-Lanters around so they are just plain pumpkins, this is a trick I learned from Mom!)
I have given you all a small run down of some really fun and festive Thanksgiving decorations for your living room. Whatever you do, don't go straight from Halloween orange and blacks to Christmas green and reds overnight. Remember the month of November right in between and the spirit of Thanksgiving, and remember to give thanks for all you are blessed with! Have a Happy Turkey Day!
