Easy Thanksgiving Indoor Decorating Ideas

If your busy schedule doesn't leave you much time for Thanksgiving decorating, there are many decorations you can make quickly and easily. Here are just a few ideas for Thanksgiving centerpieces and decorations you can create using items you may already have around the house.

Fruit Centerpiece

To make an easy fruit Thanksgiving centerpiece, arrange some greenery at the bottom of a large bowl. If you like, you can use lettuce or cabbage leaves at the bottom. Arrange fall fruits such as apples, pomegranates, oranges, pears and persimmons of various colors and sizes inside the bowl. For best results, use fresh unblemished fruit that isn't overly ripe. For a more decorative effect, place a block of floral foam in the bowl. Stick skewers in the pieces of fruit, then place the other end of the skewers in the foam.

Pumpkin Centerpieces

You can also create an easy and long-lasting Thanksgiving centerpiece by arranging fall vegetables such as acorn squash, butternut squash, Hubbard squash, chestnuts, miniature pumpkins and dried Indian corn in large bowl in a bed of multi-colored fall leaves.

A hollowed out pumpkin also makes an excellent Thanksgiving centerpiece. Cut a block of floral foam and soak it in water for about 30 minutes, then place it inside the pumpkin. Insert fall flowers such as roses, chrysanthemums, daisies and lilies in fall colors such as orange, red and yellow.

Candle Decorations

Candles make attractive decorations throughout the house around Thanksgiving. Set some large pillar candles in autumn colors and scents on your Thanksgiving table and on the mantle over your fireplace. For added fall flair, decoupage the pillar candles with fall leaves or Thanksgiving pictures cut from magazines. For a more traditional look, use taper candles in silver-tone or glass candle holders. You can also place votive candles throughout the house in places where larger candles won't fit.

Decorating with Fall Foliage

If you have fallen branches outside full of colorful fall leaves, you've got the makings of an easy Thanksgiving decoration. Just find a container such as a glass or ceramic vase and place one or two branches inside. You can also attach acorns, berries, nuts or pine cones to the branches to make your decoration look more rustic. Arrange branches with fall leaves over a tablecloth or mantlepiece to bring fall splendor indoors. You can also make a quick and easy Thanksgiving centerpiece using fall foliage. Just get a pre-made wreath from your local craft store and attach fall leaves, acorns, pine cones, berries and small pumpkins to it with hot glue. Place the wreath on your Thanksgiving table and set a large pillar candle in the center.
