If you are like most of us then you probably dread the idea of having to pack your entire house to move somewhere else. The very best thing you can do is make a check list before you do anything remotely close to packing a box or bag.
Most people end up cleaning out their house as they are packing, discarding the items or furniture they will not need or use or even have room for. It is better to do this while packing instead of taking everything with you just to move it once again later on to the dump, etc.
Before you begin with anything, be sure to have plenty of boxes ready (multiple sizes), tape, a marker, and newspaper or tissue paper, whatever you need to wrap your fragile belongings.
You want to be sure to start with one room, and if there are things you need to keep out for the time being, it is best to move these items to a corner in the room, where they will not be in the way or get packed in the process.
As you pack each box or container, be sure to label what room they go in and if you want, label the items of what is in the box. For example, put all your books in one box, decorative accessories in another, extra bedding in another, etc.
You also need to be sure to pack your boxes reasonably. Do not pile a bunch of books into a big box unless you can lift that much weight. You may end up with more boxes, but they will be easier to lift and will make the move a lot easier.
Be sure to wrap your fragile items very carefully and have plenty of cushioning so you don't have to worry about them breaking on the drive.
As for the items you need to keep out that you cannot pack yet, make a list of each person in the household and what to keep out in each room. So when you reach this room, you can look at your list and set aside all items you need to keep out and then easily quickly pack the rest.
These tips will help wonders when packing your belongings to move away. As always, be sure to load the fragile stuff in places where nothing can fall on the box, etc. No matter how carefully you packed those items, you don't want to risk them still ending up broke or damaged.
And of course, if you prefer to have a company pack and move yourself for you, be sure to check the company out thoroughly. You want to make sure they are worth the cost and will be careful with all your items.

Post a CommentIm not a big fan of moving trucks. I would rather prefer moving with the portable storage units that they drop off at your house and you just pack and move when your ready. Like PODS. It makes better sense if your not on a fixed moving schedule and need to take your time.
