Easy Travel Road Games for Children

Traveling on the road with children can be stressful and frustrating for everyone in the car. Children often get bored and start misbehaving. Common types of misbehavior are complaining, screaming and crying. Parents often feel helpless about how they can help their child calm down till they get to their final destination. The key to traveling with children is to keep them busy. I have come up with some simple fun games that you can play with your children while traveling on the road.

Find the state. There are many cars on the road that come from different states. Come up with a state such as New York and see who can find that state first. The person who finds the state first gets a reward such as a quarter or a pretzel snack bag. Warning! Avoid giving children sugar on the road since they won't be able to get rid of any hyper energy in the car.

Make a word. Come up with a word such as hotel. Then everyone has to find the letters in the word starting with the letter h. Each person who finds a letter gets one point. For example, if someone sees the letter t in the word exit they would get a point. After the word has been formed the person with the most points wins.

Make a rainbow of colors. This is a great game for toddlers in the car. Come up with a color such as green and have the children call out different things that they see green. Some green things they may see are a tree, car, building or house.

Matching game. This game is fun and time consuming. You start off picking something such as Taco Bell. The first person that sees a Taco Bell and calls it out gets a point. The first person that reaches five points wins. Restaurants, a type of car and billboard signs are things frequently seen on the road and would be good to use to play the game.

Play the name game. Take the first letter of a persons name such as Judy and have everyone come up with as many names as they can that start with the letter J. For example, Jack, Jill, Jacqueline, Jasmine and Janet. Within fifteen minutes the person who comes up with the most names wins.

Take these games ideas with you the next time you travel. You will find that these travel road games for your children will kept them busy and entertained. Before you know it the final destination has arrived.

Some good ones...and as the children grow, the games can get a little harder..like in find the state. Once someone id's a state, they get extra points if they know the Capitol city.
