The first thing you can do to ensure that counting calories is easy is to always measure the food you eat. You may sit down and eat your meal and think, "Let's see, I probably ate a cup of potatoes, a half a cup of corn, and four ounces of beef". Truth be told, it's really hard to judge portion sizes by looks alone. This makes it hard to count calories properly. The next time you prepare your meal, be sure to weigh your meat before cooking it. Then when you prepare your plate, be sure to use measuring cups when serving the other items. This makes it really easy to count the calories later on.
Of course, it may be easy to measure your meals exactly at dinnertime, but what about the rest of the day? Are there things you can do to make it easy to count calories? Sure. Buying prepackaged items make it really easy to count calories throughout the day. Granted, it can cost more to buy prepackaged items. To eliminate this cost, portion out serving sizes of your favorite foods when you have extra time. Then package them in zip top bags or plastic containers. That way, you ensure that you're always eating a serving size.
This is all well and good, but what about keeping up with the calories you've consumed? There are two ways you can do this. The first option is to use a journal you can carry with you, wherever you go. At the end of the day, it will be easy to count the calories you've consumed throughout the day. But, it's really best to check your total throughout the day.
If you have access to a computer throughout the day, you may find online diaries to be an easy way to count calories. There are several different versions available, but these diaries all make it easy to count calories. All you have to do is lookup the food you ate on their handy database and the diary will keep a running total of the calories you've consumed. It doesn't get much easier than that.
As you can see, it really is easy to count calories. Whether you want to lose weight or not, I suggest you follow these easy tips. Most people find that they aren't consuming enough calories or are consuming too many when they actually count their calories. These tips will make it easy to lose weight, but will also make it easy to stay at the weight you prefer.
