Helium is also offering writers the opportunity to write to up to thirty different titles in a competition. The winning amounts of the competition will be donated to the relief effort. Helium is also donating $2.00 for each article written. The writer can also donate earnings from other articles to this relief effort. This makes donating easy and no funds come out of your pocket.
eBay has had a donation program available for sellers for quite a long time. Sellers can choose to donate a portion of the sales of chosen items to many different charities. eBay has also recently lowered the minimum donation amount to make it easier on small scale sellers to donate to causes they choose. The Haitian relief effort has been announced just recently so if you are a seller on eBay check out this option.
Listen to your favorite radio station. In the Dayton Ohio area the radio station 103.9 the X, is announcing numbers that can be dialed for sending a text message that will trigger an automatic donation.
Your local station may not have this service but may very well be able to tell you other ways to donate.
Enter "how to donate to Haiti" into your search browser. The results go on for many pages. The first and foremost agencies to consider are,
The Salvation Army: secure20.salvationarmy.org/pages/makeDonation/usa/makeDonation.jsf
and the American Red Cross: 1-800-REDCROSS.
Other organizations working on relief efforts are:
World Vision: www.worldvision.org/worldvision/eappeal.nsf/egift-haiti-earthquake-relief
Save the Children:https://secure.savethechildren.org/01/web_e_haiti_earthquake_10
Oxfam America: secure.oxfamamerica.org/site/Donation2
Habitat for Humanity: www.habitat.org/cd/giving/donate.aspx
This is only a partial listing of the many organizations that are involved in the relief effort. If you are planning to make a donation on-line try to use a site that begins with https, the "s" after "http" stands for a secure server and your financial information should be protected.
If you are still unable to find a place to donate check with local schools or churches in your area. Many will have systems in place for financial or item donations. You do not have to donate a large amount of money, every bit that you can give will help. You do not have to donate money at all, many organizations are gathering food, clothing and supplies. Your donation can even be as simple as making an effort to write an article, of the best quality you can, and donating the proceeds to the Haitian Relief effort.
As with any disaster situations do be sure that the organization you are donating to is legitimate. Unfortunately many unscrupulous people will pop onto the scene to take advantage of the suffering and the kindness that others extend.
