Easy Ways to Help Your Child Live a Healthy Lifestyle

~Addie~
As parents, we all want the best for our children and in a society where so many health risks are after our children it is imperative that we take the time to really talk with our children and help them to understand the importance of having a healthy lifestyle. Talking to your kids isn't always the easiest task, but it can be very beneficial to their overall health. See how easily you can help your children develop a healthy lifestyle.

I'm sure you remember momma telling you " you had better eat all of that broccoli off of that plate." Oh how you dreaded the thought of gulping down those stalks of broccoli, but why did momma tell you that? Was it to truly torture you? Of course not. Children and teens need all the fruits and vegetables they can stand to eat to help their bodies stay strong and fight off infections. So as much as you hate to sound like your mother, make sure your kids are getting their veggies every day.

Go green- With all of the recalls on all of our favorite foods you never know what's good and what is not. Try changing your households eating habits and go organic. With organic foods being free from pesticides it's a far healthier choice for your family.

Be the example- I'm sure you have had a personal experience where someone you would only try something or do it if someone else did. I remember anything my dad ate, I ate, and anything my dad would try, I tired. It is our job as parents to set the example. If we are living our lives around junk food, then ultimately so will our kids. So take the steps to be sure that you are being a positive example to your kids.

No Soda- Soda is great, I love it too. But in all actuality soda is harming our children each and every day. Not just because of the high sugar content soda carries but its just liquid calories. Americans are overweight, it is true and it is due in large part to the excessive amounts of sugar we consume. To help your child keep healthy and prevent diabetes limit their intake on soda and other sugars.

Exercise is a must- Kids today don't do much of anything in p.e. I can surely remember when p.e. was a course that you had to run, play football and lift weights but not anymore. The kids can pass a physical education course now-a-days doing little to no physical education. So as parents it is our job to get our kids out. I know that may be difficult in a generation of electronics but by encouraging your children to get out doors and ride bikes, skateboards or play some baseball can help. Don't be afraid to get out there with them if you can, make it fun for the whole family. Remember lead by example.

Healthy snacks are the way to go, instead of purchasing the cupcakes and the brownie bites for you children to snack on try something like apple slices and peanut butter or graham crackers instead of cookies. Making smoothies and homemade ice cream is always fun to do as a family and are far more healthy than buying those items.

Put it in a shake- Many kids like to drink smoothies and shakes but what they don't know is that you can mask the flavor of veggies by mixing it with fruit. So put all the veggies your kids don't like into the blender then add their favorite fruit and/or fruit juice. The fruit will take over the flavor for a great taste and they will be getting the nutrients they need.

Give a multivitamin- Kids older than 9 can take a multivitamin each day to help them get the extra boost their growing bodies need. You can find great flavored vitamins, even gummi bear vitamins at your local pharmacy or drugstore.

Your children are not going to just wake up one day and decide to be healthy, as parents you have to instill those values into them. With a little love, effort and encouragement you will have the healthiest family in no time
