Easy Ways to Keep White Towels Looking Clean

Sophie Spyrou

White towels always make a bold statement and can accentuate any bathroom, not just a white or cream-themed bathroom. But over time, white towels can end up looking dingy and dirty. What can you do to keep white towels looking clean?

Always Wash White Towels with Other Whites

Sort white towels carefully before each load is added to the washing machine and only wash them with other whites, so that a stray red sock or purple t-shirt does not inadvertently end up in the wash. Washing white towels with colours will leave them looking dingy and not as brilliant as they were when you first bought them, which is why it is important to only wash white towels with other whites.

Don't Use Bath or Hand Towels to Clean With

Bath or hand towels can seem convenient when there is a bathroom stain or spot that needs to be quickly removed. But if you get into the habit of using white towels for cleaning purposes, they will soon look grey and dingy, however many times you wash them to remove the stains. Rather than using display or bath towels for cleaning purposes, designate old rags or towels that you no longer use for cleaning purposes instead and leave the white towels alone.

Add Vinegar or Baking Soda to Each Wash

Vinegar and baking soda have excellent cleaning properties and can be used to literally clean the whole house from top to bottom. Make good use of the cleaning properties of these common, yet effective, household products by adding white vinegar or a sprinkling of baking soda to each wash. White towels will come out looking pristine, crisp and clean with a minimal amount of fuss.

White towels are a good choice for display, hand or bathroom purposes. But one of the drawbacks of white towels is that they often end up losing their brilliant whiteness. But there are ways to keep white towels looking good without spending a fortune on supplies. First, always wash white towels with other whites. Do not add any colours to a white wash. Next, resist the temptation to clean with white towels, unless they are old and no longer in use. Finally, add vinegar or baking soda to each wash to keep towels looking pristine.
