Be Realistic
The first step in reclaiming your romance life is by being realistic. Don't expect your love life to be like it was before children. You cannot run off to Bora Bora together or have a candlelit dinner in the living room with peeping eyes. You can expect a more mature romance, one that fits around the needs of the family but is nonetheless satisfying.
The Latest Technology
Thanks to email and text messaging you can correspond with your sweetheart through the latest technology. Surprise him or her with a text that say, "Hi cutie!" or "You look wonderful today!" Send a few messages throughout the day but remember to avoid texting during big meetings or sending personal emails to her office email account.
Shower Together
When you have little ones you barely have time to brush your teeth or hair. Do some double duty by showering together. Get sudsy and catch up on your day. Who knows where a double shower will lead?
Put a Babysitter on Retainer
The occasional night out isn't enough to sustain a loving relationship. Put your babysitter on retainer. Have a standing date once a week or twice a month to enjoy some time alone together. Buy theater tickets or place dinner reservations in advance to insure you get a cozy spot.
Rearrange Your Loving Time
It is easy to get in a rut. When it comes to sex, you can label yourself a morning person or bedtime person. To keep your romance life alive, you need to open to intimacy whenever the opportunity presents itself. This could be early before the kids come tumbling in or in the middle of the day during naptime. Lock the doors and hide together, for a few minutes at least.
Meet for Lunch
Even if you both work, you could pull off a lunch together. For this afternoon date you won't even need the babysitter! For an hour, don't talk about the kids, the inlaws or the school. Talk about one another.
