Easy Ways to Save Money on Diapers

Drew Taylor
Babies typically use ten to twelve diapers a day. With name brand diapers costing approximately thirty-three cents each, the total quickly adds up and finding affordable diapers becomes an important goal for new parents. Whether you clip coupons or prefer to shop online, there are many ways to save money on diapers.

Buy in Bulk
Whether you buy a giant box at a warehouse store or simply opt for the bigger package at the grocery store, buying in bulk saves money. Bundle packages that include diapers and wipes are another way to save money at sites such as Walmart.com. The caveat, of course, is not to overbuy a particular size.

Join Mailing Lists
Visit the diaper companies' websites to join their mailing lists. The major companies regularly mail coupons suited to your baby's age.

Try Different Brands
It does not make sense to stick with an expensive brand of diapers because there is not one universally perfect brand. As babies grow, change diets and become more mobile, their diapering needs usually change. Do not be afraid to try new brands. Take advantage of free samples, affordable trial or travel packs and money-back guarantees to try new brands of diapers.

Shop Online
Buying diapers online is a convenient way to save money. Compare prices and look for coupon codes and rebates online on sites such as ebates.com and FatWallet.com. Amazon.com currently has a special program, Amazon Mom, which gives members free shipping and 15% off their purchase of qualifying baby gear, including diapers. Visit Amazon.com for complete details.

Diapers.com allows customers to mail in coupons and keeps them on file for a future purchase.

Shop Around
Watch sales ads and compare prices because different retailers run promotions throughout the year. Drugstores, such as CVS, often have sales rivaling other stores. CVS tracks purchases with its store card and rewards customers with dollar off coupons based on their quarterly purchases.

Grocery stores sometimes offer rewards coupons for purchasing qualifying baby products. The store typically counts the pre-coupon prices, making it easy to get a good deal.

Sign Up for Free Samples
Free diaper samples are periodically available, especially when new diapers come out. Check diaper websites and the sample offers on sites such as Walmart.com and PGBrandSampler.com. Since diaper samples can take a while to arrive, consider requesting a size larger than you currently use.

Use Coupons
Diaper coupons are periodically available in the Sunday newspaper and parenting magazines. Also look for printable coupons on store websites, such as CVS.com, and coupon websites, such as Redplum.com and Coupons.com.

@ Terrie I was focusing on disposable diapers, but you make an excellent point.

You know, my mother (89 years old) still cuts diaper coupons and lays them by the diapers in the aisles of the supermarkets for young moms to use. I saw her doing that one day and asked her why. She said, "Young moms may not have the time to cut coupons." Isn't that the sweetest?!? cheers ;)

Using cloth diapers saves money, too, and eliminates waste in the landfills.
