The time you can spend with a senior citizen is very precious. Visiting them as often as possible to sit and talk with them is a nice way to show a senior citizen that you care.
If possible, perhaps once in awhile, you can take them to a restaurant for lunch or an early dinner. This activity can be quite an enjoyable way to spend some time together.
If the senior visits you at your house and you own a computer, spending some time with them using the internet can be pleasant. Ask the senior in your life what they would like to see on the internet, maybe it is something about a favorite movie star, a recipe, etc.
We try to visit my dad as often as possible. When we visit my dad, he likes it when my husband uses my sister's computer to show him pictures of the town where he was born. The time they spend using the internet is a nice way for my husband and dad to spend some time together.
Try calling the senior on the telephone whenever you can, even just to say, "hi, how are you doing?" Phone conversations are a nice way to show that you care, especially if you cannot visit in person. Hardly a day goes by that we do not talk with my dad on the telephone. However, since we are on a limited budget, phone calls to my dad during the week are not lengthy. Our weekend calls to my dad are longer because we have a cell phone plan with free unlimited weekends.
Another way to show the senior citizen you care is to offer to take them to the grocery store or on some other errand. Sometimes it may be difficult for the senior to carry grocery bags. Perhaps the senior does not drive and it might be difficult for them to arrange transportation. They will greatly appreciate the fact that you offered to help them with their shopping or other errands.
One more way to show a senior citizen that you care is by sending emails or ecards to a senior that owns and uses a computer. Many websites offer free ecards, so there are plenty of choices. Some ecards are animated and some even have music. The senior is sure to be pleased to receive these ecards or email from you.
Hope that you got some ideas on some of the various ways to show a senior citizen in your life that you care about them.
