Easy Ways to Update an Outdated Wardrobe

Sophie Spyrou

If your wardrobe is outdated and you still have clothes from before you had children more than a decade ago, you have a number of options. You can toss the clothes out, donate them to charity or update them for an entirely different look, without having to replace your outdated wardrobe.

Use Jackets to Disguise Outdated Tops

If you own a number of psychedelic tops from the 70s that you just can't bring yourself to part with, but find difficult to accessorise with other items of clothing, there is no need to get rid of them just yet. Use jackets to cover up yesterday's fashions, while still getting some use out of tops you still like the look of. Finish off the look by casually wrapping a matching scarf around your neck.

Keep Classic Styles

Classic styles of clothing such as black pencil skirts and white blouses never truly go out of fashion. So before you retire these items once and for all, pull them out of your wardrobe and start wearing them again. Provided they still fit, you can continue to wear classic items that have been hanging in your wardrobe. Pair them with modern jackets, tops and accessories to freshen up the look and breathe new life into classic styles.

Layer Clothes

Layering clothes is an easy way to update an outdated wardrobe and serve many other purposes too, such as keeping warm during the cold winter months. When it is below freezing outside, does it really matter if you are bundled up in several layers of outdated clothes? The top layer will cover up the neon pink t-shirt you have had since your teens or the woollen jumper that is miles too big, given to you years ago by your granny.

An outdated wardrobe is not something you will want to share with your children and their friends, but rather than toss everything out and start with a whole new wardrobe, there are less drastic ways to update your wardrobe. Use jackets to cleverly disguise outdated tops, keep classic styles (which never go out of fashion) and layer clothes to disguise ones you would rather not be seen in.
