Drink More Water
There are a number of ways this New Year's resolution can help you lose weight. First of all, dehydration is often mistaken for hunger. Sipping on water throughout the day can help you avoid these feelings. Another way water helps with weight loss is that it can slowly replace sugary, calorie filled drinks in your diet. While it can be hard to give up soda and other sugary drinks at once, you can slowly drink more and more water until it's all you drink. Lastly, drinking a large glass of water before a meal can actually help you eat less.
Take Up a New Activity
Is there an activity you've always wanted to try? Maybe it's hiking, ballroom dancing, gardening or even a sport. There are a number of fun activities that don't seem like exercise, but still burn calories. Practicing your new hobby a few times a week can burn calories and ultimately help you lose weight. This can also be a great way to connect with your partner or your children. Try dragging out the Wii and challenging your family to a quick game a couple times a week. You'll burn calories and have a ball doing it.
Cook More Meals at Home
It's true that you can find healthier foods at restaurants than was once available. Still, cooking at home gives you full control. You have the option to flavor foods the way you like and to use healthier ingredients. Make a New Year's resolution to choose a new recipe each week that is low in fat and calories. This is an easy way to lose weight, try new foods and save money.
Eat More Often
People are often under the misconception that weight loss starts with cutting back on the amount of food you eat. This is true to a certain extent. What won't help you lose weight is skipping meals. When you skip meals, you slow your metabolism. Eating three meals and at least two snacks a day can keep your metabolism burning calories all day long.
