A single wine cork makes the perfect base for an adorable tin soldier's hat!
The supplies you will need for each ornament are as follows:
A wine cork
blue paint
3 tiny gold beads
1 yellow feather
1 ½ inch piece of red ribbon (¼ inch wide)
a sheet of blue foam or construction paper
glue
wire (or an ornament hanger).
First, paint the entire wine cork blue and allow it to dry completely. Acrylic paints work well for this.
Then, glue a small piece of red ribbon around the base of the hat.
Next, glue three gold beads above the ribbon. It is easier to glue the first bead nearest to the bottom and then work your way up the hat, as you need to make sure you glue a small yellow feather behind the top bead.
Cut a semi-circle lip for the brim of the hat using either the sheet of blue foam or construction paper. Glue this piece to the bottom of the hat.
Foam sheets will stand up better and last longer than construction paper, but paper will work if you cannot find blue foam sheets. You might also consider using a thin piece of cardboard that you painted blue.
Add a hanger on top of the ornament through the hole made by the corkscrew. Glue the hanger securely in place.
Aleene's Original Tacky Glue, or another brand of craft glue that dries clear, works well for this particular project.
If desired, you can write the year or the date on the underside of the hat brim with a gold metallic pen or marker.
