Winter is the best time to plan for the next years landscaping projects. Don't waste your time planting tons of flowers that may or may not be injured by severe cold condition. Instead, spruce up your winter landscape using various things. Arbors, trellises, fountains, bird bathes and any other lawn décor you may like would be a great accent to any winter landscape. Trees the flourish well with cold temperatures are also a nice touch for a winter landscape.
When planting trees for a winter landscape be sure to choose hardy trees that will make it through any unexpected extreme temperatures. Evergreens are a beautiful site during the winter months. Their lush green foliage is eye catching against a snowy back drop. With several species of evergreens that come in various shapes and sizes. Most can actually be cut and designed to go with any décor. Berry trees are another great addition to a winter landscape, there crisp green foliage and bright red berries are eye catching.
Winter is also a great time to work with container gardens. Container gardens are great for bringing in your favorite plants that may lack the hardiness you desire. Placing them in containers make it easiest to add heating elements and cover them from frost. Winter landscapes are beautiful when designed with container gardens and the possibilities are endless. Using various sizes, colors, shapes and designs will create an appealing display on any winter landscape.
While planning your winter landscape and looking for ideas, don't forget that winter is also the holiday season. Decorate using holiday figurines, lights and other lawn ornaments for the appropriate season. Most people start Christmas lights right after Thanksgiving and they go until New Years. Amaze your neighbors and passer-byers with a stunning light display. With so many option these days its not hard to come up with a unique Christmas display that is unlike any other. Christmas lights are a great way to bring on the holiday season and the winter! Create a stunning winter landscape by simply decorating for the season!
Still looking for an idea to spruce up your winter landscape? Something simple but yet still very appealing? Then you should consider winter grasses. Not only are the hardy but the work well with any winter landscape and require very little maintenance. Plume grass is a very common winter grass and will actually grow very tall; up to 8ft. Other short grasses work great, too! They are gorgeous and go over quite well when used to line porches, patios, decks, walkways and flower beds!
While these are only a few ideas for your winter landscape, you may consider going to your local nursery to get more ideas. There, you will find several winter plants and can actually see how they handle the cold in your area. They will most likely have several fountains, arbors and other accessories to go with you winter landscape as well.
