What Paper to Use for the Easy-to-Make Cake Gift Box
I made the cake gift box in 10 minutes using a beautiful print from an old calendar, but you can also glue a magazine image on construction paper or use a beautiful print from a craft store. You can even create this easy-to-make cake gift box from family photos printed on 8x11 glossy photo paper.
Create the Pattern for the Easy-to-Make Cake Gift Box
Draw a triangle on the back of your beautiful paper, making the triangle a little larger than your slice of cake. Next, cut out the triangle but leave a three inch margin all around. The margin will construct the side walls of your easy-to-make cake gift box. If your slice of cake is taller than three inches, increase the margin accordingly.
Fold the Easy-to-Make Cake Gift Box
Fold the paper along the lines of the inner triangle. As you raise two adjacent sides, you'll notice that they get stuck in the corners. Therefore, snip open the corners, fold their ends into the cake gift box, and use masking tape to stick them flat against the gift box walls (see pictures). Repeat this step for all three sides to complete folding your easy-to-make cake gift box. Don't worry about how the inside of the gift box looks. This will be covered with foil paper in the next step.
Line the Easy-to-Make Cake Gift Box
Press foil paper gently into the easy-to-make cake gift box, curving it into corners until you line the inside fully. Allow the foil paper to overlap over the edge of the cake gift box so that a thin silvery line appears along the top of the box on the outside.
Create the Pattern for the Easy-to-Make Cake Gift Box Lid
On matching paper draw a triangle that's slightly larger than the size of your easy-to-make cake gift box. Cut the triangle out, this time leaving a 1 inch margin. Repeat the process you used for making the cake gift box to fold the lid. Finally, line the lid of the easy-to-make cake gift box with foil paper also, once more overlapping at the edges.
Seal the Easy-to-Make Cake Gift Box
After you place a slice of gourmet cake inside the box (over the foil paper), place the lid over the box. Cut a strip of glitter ribbon (found in craft stores) and wrap your easy-to-make cake gift box with it, twirling the ends of the ribbon like a bow.
The easy-to-make cake gift box makes a wonderful celebration gift, and it can be reused once the soiled foil paper is removed and replaced with a fresh one.
